Notes on the Labyrinth
St. Paul’s Labyrinth Team, working with the Rev. Donna Ross, is
planning a second retreat continuing the theme of “Walking the
Seasons”. On Saturday, September 9, we will reflect on “The
Season of the Spirit.” Spiritual reflections will be led by Donna
Ross and creative activities will be offered by other members of the
Labyrinth Team.
On September 9 you are invited to take a mini vacation, a “time out”
from your busy life: a time for transformation, a chance to once again
live life according to the spirit—which is action based on our souls
and bodies begin infused with the workings of the Spirit. For
inspiration, you will have a choice of playful art work, journaling,
and walking the Labyrinth.
Labyrinth walking is a gift you can give yourself which may lead to
discovery, insight, connectedness and renewed creativity.
Thinking is not required to walk a labyrinth; at the same time, one
must remain alert to stay on the path. This combination of
reduced mental activity and heightened awareness makes it ideal for a
walking mediation or prayer. For some a Labyrinth Walk represents
our passage through time and experience; the Labyrinth’s many
turns reflect the journey of life, which involves change and
transition, rites of passage and the cycles of nature. As
reaching the center of the Labyrinth is assured simply by staying on
the path, walking or dancing the Labyrinth is more about the journey
than the destination—more about being rather than doing.
Please come and bring a bag lunch; coffee, tea and juice will be
provided by the Labyrinth Team. So that we can welcome you and
your guests, please let us know you’re coming by calling Barbara Miller
at the church office (927-3239).
