Many Voices of Faith

Started in Cambria as a response to September 11, Many Voices of Faith is an interfaith group open to anyone wishing to participate in the planning and presentation of free and open activities supporting peace through understanding and respect among different faiths, traditions, and beliefs. Since September 11, Many Voices of Faith has hosted a "Day of Understanding" where representatives of various faiths shared the essence of their beliefs, as well as "Wings for the Spirit", an interfaith music festival. Those wishing to participate are invited to the next planning meeting, 10:30 am on August 26 at the Santa Rosa Catholic Church, 1174 Main Street in Cambria.

In its continuing mission to promote understanding and respect among different faiths, traditions and beliefs, Many Voices of Faith is hosting a labyrinth walk, "Many Paths of Faith", on Saturday, August 24, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church 2700 Eton Road in Cambria.  Following a short opening ceremony at noon, the labyrinth will be open until 5 p.m.

Offered as a spiritual tool to assist in experiencing a deeper sense of awareness of ourselves and our Source, the labyrinth introduces the walker to a patterning that builds a sense of relationship to people, to creation, and to the Divine. It becomes a metaphor for our journey through life. The labyrinth path is meandering, but purposeful, from the edge to the center and our again. There is only one path, so there are no "wrong turns". A pamphlet explaining the labyrinth experience in depth will be available at the labyrinth site. Contemplative music from the many faiths participating in this sharing will accompany the walking experience.

Refreshments will be served in the upper parish hall, where representatives from many spiritual paths will set up tables with literature and other expressions of their faiths, and be available for discussion. This will offer an opportunity for a more informed understanding of the different faiths. The spiritual paths participating in this event include The Baha'i Faith, Christian Science Society, Community Presbyterian Church, Estero Bay United Methodist Church, First Unity Church, Islamic Society of the Central Coast, La Casa De Maria, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Santa Rosa Catholic Church, The Society of Friends (Quakers), Soka Gakkai Buddhist Group. Temple Beth David, and Wicca.
