A “Wild Thought” Becomes a Reality
In Early January I was prayerfully wool-gathering. My focus had
shifted to thinking about what the parish could give Donna and Rob that
would express our appreciation and love. The tsunami had just
occurred and I had heard from Habitat International that over 5000
Habitat homes had been destroyed. For $1600 a home could be
rebuilt. That’s when the “wild thought” came: the perfect
gift. When the thought would not go away, I decided to go ahead,
and with $300 in hand, I announced at the annual meeting that this was
going to happen! The wild idea must have been from the Holy
Spirit, because two weeks ago I sent in the check for $1600 from St.
Paul’s to Habitat International.
Now here is where
things get really interesting. After mailing in the check, I
learned of a matching grant: two homes for the price of
one. Well, why not try! After ten days of talking with
anyone who’d answer their extension, I got the news that we would get
the matching money. From $300 to $3200...loaves and fishes
multiplied. A wild idea? I don’t think so, not when God
gets involved, and a small church says, “yes”.
My thanks to all of you. May God’s blessings
touch those who will inhabit these homes.
