Dear Church Family,
Out of necessity, today’s updates are a bit longer, as there will be no announcements next week because I will out of the office May 24-26th. Here are your updates for May 19-June 1:
Attention Altar Guild: All of the bulletins for the 8 am and 10:30 am services on May 22 and May 29 will be delivered to the sacristy this week. Please remove the Prayers of the People form for May 22 after the last service on that day, and just leave the black binder on the credenza with only the May 29th form remaining in it. The removed form from May 22 can be returned to the office in the bulletin basket. Thanks.
The St. Paul’s Helper for May is Anne Harris Smith. Betty Pierce will serve in June. You will notice that this information is now listed most weeks in your Sunday bulletin on the calendar page, and on the calendars posted around our grounds.
Volunteer Schedules: Attached please find the 8 am/9:30 am volunteer schedule for June 5 through July 31 (in 2 formats, just in case!). ALL Sunday volunteers please note: June 5 9:30 am volunteer assignments are: Stevely A- Acolyte; Betty M serving as Lector/Intercessor; Carol S-Healing Prayers; and Frank S. as Usher. (Website Version: The schedules will be posted below and at the Volunteer Tab under 8:00-9:30 am Volunteers).
Preventive maintenance :From May 30 through June 12, there may be times when primary entrances to the church or parish hall are temporarily closed while painting takes place. Those visiting the property on Sunday or for Senior Nutrition may find that they need to access through lesser-used side doors. Your patience is appreciated while we complete this important work.
Office closures: Father Brian will be out of the office next Wed through Friday, May 25-27, but will return for Sunday services on May 29th. Bible Scholars group will still meet on the 25th. Parish Administrator will be out of the office Tuesday through Thursday, May 24-26. Office volunteer Barbara Marks will be checking and routing messages during the week.
Pastoral emergencies: Barbara will have the info on our pastoral emergency priest while Father Brian is away.
WOW! Beautification Day was amazing! We trimmed, hedged, spread bark, weeded and weed-whacked, raked, swept, removed old blooms and dead wood, and chopped, bagged and hauled off to our own green bins, most of the excess green waste that was produced by all the day’s activity! Our volunteers served with gladness and with joyful hearts, and boy, did they WORK HARD! Many thanks to those who came out to help on Beautification Day: Bob Sfarzo (lead arborist), Mary Brockman (St. Paul’s Grounds Coordinator), Father Brian, Senior Warden Doug Wong, Junior Warden Sue Johnson, Frank Johnson, Ann Glaser, Jane Mettee, Judy Olson and her daughter, Christine, Marg. Davy, Jeff Rodriguez and I. There is only 1 area of work still pending which will occur in the near future: the hillside below the sanctuary’s east windows. Many thanks to everyone who helped; and thanks to those who contributed to our VERY tasty lunch! A few photos of the work day will be on our website within the next few days. They aren’t the best quality…I forgot my camera and resorted to using my “not-so-smart” camera phone. Still, I think they capture the spirit of the day. So check out the website in a few days: www.stpaulscambria.org
Countdown for next food distribution day- There are only 2 Sundays left until our Outreach volunteer, Leonard Kohout, delivers our monthly donations for distribution on Thursday, June 2nd. For hungry children who are able to receive meals through their schools during the school year, summer can be an especially difficult time. Please support this important ministry any way you can. Many thanks to Leonard for all of the time he gives to this Outreach Project each month. If you’d like to help with the delivery logistics, contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org
Coffee hosts are still needed for some upcoming services. If, when you arrive at church, you see that on the back page, it refers to “Fellowship Time”, rather than “Coffee Hour”, that is a signal that no one has signed up to host that day, so a last minute host who can at least make coffee would be appreciated! (The “summer shortage”, due to vacationing parishioners has begun, I think!)
Memorial Day is Monday May 30th. Because of the holiday, Senior Nutrition will be closed.
A rather early thank you to our musicians Kate Hepworth and Barbara Dallmann, and to our choir, for all they have done through this past choir season. Our choir will wrap up its season May 29th. Well done, and enjoy your summer break!
Speaking of music…Enjoy this hula version of a praise song called Under Your Shade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMrMfs3uXf8 I think hula lessons are in my near future! (Wink) See you all May 31!
Mahalo for all you do!
