Dear Church Family,
Another week just blew by; what a busy place our little parish is!
Here are your updates for July 28-August 4, 2016:
•Parish Hall Kitchen Cleaning- This Saturday, July 30th at 9 a.m.!! There’s a job for everyone, including a few able-bodied men to lift heavy items out/in of the storage closet, and possibly do a simple hardware installation. We are including a list of tasks that our industrious volunteers are hopefully going to collectively complete on Saturday. Folks can review the list, think about what task they may be able to help with, then bring all of the necessary cleaning agents (Magic Erasers, cleaning liquids, gloves, bucket, etc) with them for their selected task. So here is the list:
-Mop, and hand scrub where necessary ( ex: around/ under fixtures) the kitchen floor.
-Thoroughly clean backsplash and kitchen counters
-Wipe out/clean/organize kitchen drawers
-Clean out and organize kitchen cabinets; including cleaning the salt/pepper shakers
-Wipe down the roll-up screen at the serving window.
-Mop dining hall floor
-Wipe down chairs and tables in dining hall
-Straighten drawers in dining hall.
-Dust/ spot-clean blinds
-CLEAN OUT AND ORGANIZE THE PARISH HALL STORE ROOM. “Consolidation, whenever possible” are the magic words here. This task also brings with it its own “relocation program”. The challenges: Are there other areas available to store some of the larger, or less frequently used items (wheelchair, chalk board, etc)? Can similar items (tablecloths, for example?) be consolidated and stored in only one area? Can available storage in the women’s restroom be an alternative for certain items now being stored in the storage room? Can cleaning equipment (mops, etc,) be more organized and stored in a cleaner fashion? Hopefully some able-bodied men will join us for the storage room clean out, and, if possible, bring a drill/screws, or hammer/nails for the possible installment of utility hooks.
-And, generally speaking, come armed to battle some ants!
ALSO- A REMINDER THAT THE DOORED CABINET ADJACENT THE TV IS FOR THE EXCLUSIVE USE OF THE CHURCH GROUP THAT MEETS IN THE HALL ON TUESDAY EVENINGS, SO PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB THE CONTENTS OF THAT CABINET.
Good Luck, and thanks in advance for your help!
•SUNDAY, JULY 31: Cards for Vivian. Father Brian will gladly receive any cards parishioners wish to bring to church for Vivian Russo. He will deliver them this Sunday, July 31st, after church when he visits her in Santa Barbara. Another way to send her cheer is through Cottage Hospital’s electronic greeting card delivery system at https://www.cottagehealth.org/patients-visitors/cheer-cards/ . Vivian has made significant progress in the past 10 days, but it is still too early for her to transfer to rehab. According to family, she is getting a bit antsy, bored, and would love to come home! Sounds like she hasn’t lost her spark J !
Also, on Sunday: Last chance to bring food or monetary contributions for our monthly CAN distribution.
•TUESDAY, AUGUST 2-Father Brian will be out of the office.
•10:30 VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE ATTACHED! It is now also posted in the Parish Hall.
•A SHOUT OUT TO KATE, ACROSS THE POND! The hymnals have been ordered! Enjoy your visit with your mum!
• “THERE’S SOMETHING UP, IN THE PARISH-HOOD! WHO YOU GONNA CALL?... GHOSTBUSTERS!!!” (not!!)

•I saw a great line of school supplies at a popular retail chain the other day. The messages on the sweetly illustrated file folders, notebook covers, etc, were “There is room under the sun for everyone.” and “There’s an Other in all of us.” Made me smile…
Until next week,
