More Food! More Food!
We’re Counting On You
Our March food distribution was a bit of a disappointment. We had
some 60 bags to fill and for the first time most of us can remember the
amount of food given by St. Paul’s was too scanty to give people
enough. Please remember to bring food contributions to church,
and /or give money— which buys a lot from the food bank—by leaving
checks or cash in the basket near the doors of the church.
What kind of food do we need? Here’s a reminder:
Food with high protein value: canned tuna, salmon, chicken, hams,
corned beef, as well as peanut butter and chili.
Cereals, especially those packaged in smaller quantities; variety packs
of oatmeal and other cereal variety packs are good. Avoid heavily
sugared cereals.
Canned fruits and vegetables. For some reason, we always get a
whole lot of beans and tomato sauces. Nothing against these, we
need them. But we could use
more canned fruits and green veggies. Also fruit juices.
Bisquick. People can use this product to make a number of
things. Small boxes please.
Dried beans, peas and lentils in small bags. Highly nutritious
and flexible in their uses.
Spaghetti sauce. We usually have more spaghetti than we have
sauce.
Goodies. Low on the priority list for nutrition, maybe, but a little
dessert makes a meal instead of just a feeding.
We can always use coffee, cookies, puddings, crackers, chocolate syrup,
and breakfast bars.
How do we make sure St. Paul’s provides enough? Companion
shopping; when you go to the market, imagine you have a needy
person with you Buy them something when you buy for yourself.
